Mother's day! A fun assignment where, although working, I did actually get to enjoy some of the excellent grub for a change. Thanks to Tracy and Caroline and the excellent staff at this fine hotel. Best Western Posada Royale. The food was swell, the families were glowing and I got to do one of those "this is the first time in years the whole family has been together" kind of group shots. Spur of the moment family photography gig if you like. I'll post them soon but it was the wonderful Trudi Friedman and family. I've posted some pix on my blogs and will also link on Facebook. I'll put them under Events or Family Photography on my main site at http://ping.fm/iIFxK soon.

Just got through using the new Nikon D800 for a wedding, an event and some family photos - busy weekend! I'll give my quick comments over the coming days. Overall a superb camera but I'm not crazy about the ergonomics. Too many mini buttons crowding the shutter release for starters. www.marklaing.com - I'll put up my LA Wedding Photography pix soon.

OK, I just added some more "bumpf" (an old English expression) to my family photographypricing page on my website www.marklaing.com - hopefully this will make it clearer for folks who aren't looking for Wedding Photography but want great family photos! http://ping.fm/lTpwN

Some thoughts on Wedding Photography:

Wedding photography is perhaps the gold standard for photographers.

Yeah, I know - shooting riots and models and sports is tough but this is the most important day of someone's life and, unlike sports, there is usually only one (professional) person capturing the images.

I take it very seriously.

I dream about wedding photograpy and how I will make the next wedding even better than the last one I shot.

I plan the shots and fantasize about the images you and I will create. It's a collaboration after all working with a professional wedding photographer.

Taking photos of brides and grooms has to be the most pleasurable experience for a photographer - you're crazy in love, glowing and full of life. How can I not get caught up in all that passion?

Traditional, Photojournalist (Candid) and Contemporary style photography. You choose but you know I love to catch the "moment".

For a bride and groom the wedding photographer is very often the longest lasting relationship among all the vendors. The venue is never visited again, the food eaten, the dress put away and the fancy invitations put in a drawer.

But you stay close to the photographer. You go over the proofs, "ooh" over the video montage and (maybe) back and forth on which amazing photos become the final 300.

Then you become a family, have a little one and now we're talking baby and family photos...it's a relationship which can last years. Choose wisely.
